Newport news

The high price of cigarettes might have motivated a pack of nicotine addicts to steal 30 cartons of Newports from a delivery van on Hoyt Street on June 28.

Days before the latest city tax hike on smokes went into effect, a pack of perps swiped the precious tobacco from a van as its driver made a delivery on the block between Warren and Wyckoff streets at around 4 pm.

In their haste to escape with the increasingly valuable goods, the thugs even swiped the drirver with their getaway car, a green Honda civic.
