Manhattan’s culinary loss is Brooklyn’s gain.
Booted to make way for a nine-story building, the Cheyenne Diner, long a fixture on Ninth Avenue near Penn Station, is being moved to Red Hook, preservationists announced this week.
The buyer, construction manager Michael O’Connell, is the son of Red Hook developer Greg O’Connell.
O’Connell is paying $5,000 for the classic railcar diner, according to preservationist Michael Perlman, who formed the Committee to Preserve the Cheyenne Diner to publicize the diner’s plight.
“The prayers of preservationists have been answered,” Perlman said. “We were yearning to have the Cheyenne transported close to its roots.”
