Hip-hop, jazz, pop and more

BAMcafé Live, 30 Lafayette Avenue in Fort Greene, the performance series curated by Brooklyn Academy of Music Associate Producer of Music Darrell M. McNeill, continues its line-up for June with all performances (unless otherwise stated) beginning at 9 p.m.

June 20 brings Beatboxer Entertainment: Reflections of Perception. Beatboxer Entertainment was founded by producer Terry Lewis and is an evolving media and entertainment company grounded in the DIY spirit that gave birth to hip-hop. For BAMcafé Live, they’ve assembled an all-star crew of hip-hop stars — beatboxers, emcees, and a capella singers — for a night of beats and more.

June 21 spotlights Sarah Renfro. Texas native and Brooklyn transplant, Renfro discovered a passion for music at a young age by playing piano and woodwinds. At the University of North Texas, she studied a wide range of vocal styles including jazz, classical, folk, rock, pop, Brazilian, and Peruvian. Her original, nuanced pop-folk tunes showcase her cool voice and her artistic influences which range from Björk to Cat Power to e.e. cummings and David Lynch.

June 27-28 at 8 p.m. features the URB ALT Festival, a music/film festival that places multi-disciplinary artists of note on the same bill with up and coming underground artists. Founded by Boston Fielder and featuring his MuthaWit Orchestra as house band, the first night includes the soul/rock gypsy sound of Brig Feltus with members of Pillow Theory, the polyphonic harp virtuosity of Brandee Younger (Ravi Coltrane), and the LES reggae/rock/soul power of Faith.

The second night of Boston Fielder’s URB ALT Festival features the rock/soul/pop songs of V. Jeffrey Smith (The Family Stand); the punk/pop/rock runway histrionics of Tenderhead; and a special collaboration between the MuthaWit Orchestra and guests.

BAMcafé Live events have no cover charge and no drink minimum. For information and updates, call 718-636-4100 or visit
