Today’s news:

Leaving the city behind for the great outdoors

This month marked the start of Fresh Air summer vacations for hundreds of Brooklyn children.

The excited youngsters left Port Authority Bus Terminal to visit volunteer host families in rural and suburban communities throughout 13 northeastern states and Canada.

They will enjoy two weeks or more of simple summertime pleasures such as skipping rocks across a lake, roasting marshmallows and making new friends. Children make friends that often last a lifetime.

There is still time to register your child for a free summer vacation. For a referral to a participating agency in Brooklyn, call The Fresh Air Fund at 1-800-367-0003 or 1-212-897-8900.

Registration is free, and you may download an application on The Fund’s website at www.freshair.org.
