Today’s news:

Pet adoption festival at Prospect Park

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals will hold its Pet Adoption Festival, August 2 in Prospect Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) to find welcoming homes for the cats and dogs awaiting adoption from the alliance’s participating shelters and rescue groups.

This is the Mayor’s Alliance’s largest pet adoption event scheduled for this summer, and will feature dozens of pets.

The festival will be held near Bartel Pritchard Circle at the intersection of Prospect Park West and 15th Street. Eager dogs and cats, purebred and mixed breed alike, will be waiting and wagging their tails, hoping for that special someone or family to welcome them into their loving arms, hearts, and homes.

Low-cost microchipping will be available for $25 for newly-adopted animals, as well as for cats and dogs who already have a home. Brooklynites are encouraged to bring along their cats or dogs (or both)…by microchipping their pets, owners gain the security of knowing that if their beloved pet becomes lost, the odds of being reunited with him or her are much greater.

Weruva pet food will be on hand to distribute, free of charge, cans of their natural pet food to newly-microchipped animals.

A trainer, groomer, and veterinarian will be on hand to offer advice or to answer pet health questions, and a TTouch practitioner will also be available to demonstrate this unique method of pet relaxation and behavior control based on circular movements of the fingers and hands on the animal’s body.

Joining the day of fun and education, the Companion Animal Parasite Council will have a van stationed at the event, and will be available to speak to pet owners about the best way to guard their furry friends against common pests, such as ticks and fleas, which can be prevalent in the hot summer months.

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals stages numerous adoption events on weekends throughout New York City. For additional information on upcoming events, visit the Mayor’s Alliance website at www.animalalliancenyc.org.
