Today’s news:

Wild end to summer

If you’re looking for something fun and cheap to do with your family this summer, check out what’s going on at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo.

The zoo has daily programs and activities designed for children of all ages to learn about animals and have fun doing it. Discover how a porcupine uses its quills, get eye to eye with an owl, and make some nature-inspired crafts. The best part is that all activities are free with zoo admission.

Below is the zoo’s summertime line-up, running now through September 1:

· Live Animal Encounters, Fridays through Mondays: You never know who you’ll meet at the zoo this summer. Join keepers and volunteers as they bring some of the zoo’s unique animals off exhibit to the Discovery Theater or Barn Stage, giving visitors an up-close and personal look at these cool creatures.

· Storytelling Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Hear amazing animal tails under the tent at the barn. Enjoy stories about our animal friends while taking in the farm scenery.

· Wild Art Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is an artist at the new activity center, located in the Animals in Art exhibit. Kids can create some wild crafts, all centered around animals. Weekly creations include animal sun catchers, bookmarkers, egg scratch art, and snake bracelets.

· Games on Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 & 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Play outdoors at the zoo. Join the staff and their puppet friends under the tent at the barn for a variety of games and activities. It’s sure to be a wildly entertaining time.

Admission to the Prospect Park Zoo is $6; $2.25 for seniors 65 and older; $2 for kids 3-12 and free for children under three. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and until 5:30 p.m. on weekends.
