Bocce for a good cause - Bowlers take the field to aid children in need

Dozens of Bocce ball lovers flocked to Coney Island’s KeySpan Park last week where they participated in a special charity tournament for children.

Upwards of six courts were set up at the ballpark August 23 as two divisions of beginners and seasoned players followed their Pallinos to Bocce stardom.

Winners of the tournament left with the title “Bocce King” as well as the knowledge that money earned from the tournament was donated to Bellevue Hospital.

Much like baseball, Bocce ball is an integral part of Brooklyn’s cultural history and has recently been experiencing a modern resurgence, thanks to its popularity among young players.

The tournament, which was sponsored by Hunter Green Assoc. LTD, coincided with the Brooklyn Cyclones Italian Heritage night.
