There will be a public reception with the artist, September 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery’s Williamsburg location, 293 Grand Street between Roebling and Havemeyer.
Regular gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, call 718-218-8939 or visit www.chicontemporaryfineart.com.
Blanton’s first solo show “Ancient Experiences” is inspired by his statement, “Objective truth is a fallacy, all we are is our experience.” Drawn to fundamental metaphysical questions, Blanton’s paintings explore the ever evolving and multifarious nature of human experience. Using the surface as a metaphor for the passage of time, each layer’s textural element gives the impression of entropy.
Focusing on the figure from a classical viewpoint, each painting depicts the intangible as experienced through feeling, beyond the grasp of physicality. In addition, to his figurative work Blanton will also exhibit a series entitled “Fluting” which reference the earliest known traces of human markings.
