The 68th Precinct Youth Council, based in Bay Ridge, had its annual Labor Day All-Star Games, Home Run Derby and BBQ. The events took place at the Frank Schnurr baseball fields on 83rd street and Shore Road, and 79th Street and Shore Road, respectively.
The farm and little league baseball divisions of the Youth Council each held an All-Star game for their players. In addition, the Farm League had a home run derby contest and all joined in an end of summer BBQ with coaches, parents and league officials.
Bob Capano, president of the 68th Precinct Youth Council, stated: “This is a great way to end the summer for our children as we give them an opportunity to have some fun with their teammates and friends before they start school again. It is a great honor to serve as President of this organization with so many dedicated volunteers committed to working with the children of our community each year.”
Capano played baseball with the 68th Precinct Youth Council as a child growing up in Bay Ridge. Currently, the Youth Council is celebrating its 53rd year and serves more than 1,100 children each year. In addition to its baseball program, the youth council provides year-round indoor and outdoor soccer programs for boys and girls 4-15 years old.
