Today’s news:

Runaway SUV slams into supermarket

A freak accident in Coney Island led to an SUV plowing through the front of a Mermaid Avenue Fine Fare Supermarket last week. Police said that a shopper inside the supermarket, located between West 29th and West 30th streets, was pinned under the vehicle following the crash at 3:15 p.m. on October 3. Witnesses told police that the driver of the SUV lost control of his vehicle outside the supermarket, slammed into a parked car and crashed through the store window. Shoppers were able to pull the woman out from underneath the SUV as paramedics arrived. Both she and the driver of the SUV, also a woman, were rushed to Lutheran Medical Center for treatment.
