Today’s news:

Bookkeeping class

The Nonprofit HelpDesk is offering a Nonprofit Bookkeeping and Accounting Program Certified by Brooklyn College’s Department of Professional Advancement and Continuing Education this spring.

Now in its second year, the Certificate Program is open to executive directors, program directors, bookkeepers and office managers employed at nonprofit organizations.

The Fiscal Management Department of any non profit organization must be well equipped with experience and professionalism.

With proper training and skill, employees in this area can make their organization reach horizons that have not been explored.

Proficiency in fiscal management ensures best usage of limited funds, output accurate reports to maintain current funding, decrease time spent on administrative tasks and increase additional funding.

Designated as the exclusive fiscal management technical assistance provider of New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the NonProfit HelpDesk offers this program at no cost to DYCD grantees, and low-cost for other nonprofit professionals.

“This course is transformational for participants.” says Chaya Abelsky, director of the NonProfit HelpDesk. “When an organization learns how to manage the money they have, they are building a foundation for long-term success.”

The finances of many smaller nonprofits are handled by executive directors or secretaries who, without a strong background in finance, have to spend an unnecessary amount of time on fiscal management.

Other nonprofits are forced to outsource their bookkeeping and without a basic understanding of nonprofit fiscal management, lose control over how their money is managed.
