Volleyball round-up: Sheepshead escapes with win over New Utrecht

Estefania Rodas had four kills and Wing Lam Chan had four digs as the Sheepshead Bay girls’ volleyball team defeated New Utrecht, 23-25, 25-20, 25-12, on Wednesday at Midwood HS in Brooklyn 3-A action.

Nila Nogueira had five assists for Sheepshead (4-3). Gabriella Carbonaro had eight kills and eight digs, Alyssa Khan had nine kills and five digs, Christine Chen had 13 assists and Ariana Ng had six digs for New Utrecht (4-3).

Both teams are tied for third in the division behind Midwood and FiveBoroSports.com PSAL No. 10 Secondary School.

Grover Cleveland 2, Aviation 0: Roksolyana Filipchak had seven kills and six service aces and Joanna Kaminska had five kills and seven aces to lead Cleveland to a 25-7, 25-6 win in Queens 7-A. Miryam Candela had 12 assists for the Tigers.

PSAL CLASS B

Richmond Hill 2, Beach Channel 1: Jennifer Cordova had seven kills and three blocks to lead Richmond Hill to a 14-25, 25-20, 25-21 win in Queens 10-B. Antenieka Burton had four blocks, Melissa Siles had five digs and Stephanie Tineo had 16 assists for the Lions.

South Bronx 2, Bronx School 0: Michelle Caraballo had five kills to lead South Bronx to a 25-10, 26-24 win in Bronx 2-B. Damaryliz Gutierrez had four assists.

Goldstein 2, Lafayette 0: Kristen Herchenroder had four kills and six service aces to lead Goldstein to a 25-14, 25-20 win in Brooklyn 6-B. Christina McKeever had seven assists and six aces and Katelyn Stone had eight assists for Goldstein.
