Men 18 years of age and older are invited to join the Genesis Lodge #64, the Canarsie branch of the nation’s oldest non-sectarian fraternal order, the Knights of Pythias.
The lodge meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at Temple Emanu-El of Canarsie, on Rockaway Parkway between Avenues M and N in Canarsie.
“For over a century, Pythians have been dedicated to helping others, to supporting charitable causes, to aiding the sick, the poor and the aged,” said Eric Platt, chancellor commander of Genesis Lodge #64.
The Pythians provide free summer camp vacations for thousands of underprivileged children, scholarships to students, grants for medical research, donate needed equipment to hospitals and conduct a youth sports program, Chancellor Commander Platt said.
In addition to fraternalism and participation in charitable and community endeavors, Pythians have available to them such benefits as a blood bank; burial and cemetery plots for the family; reduced cost travel programs for members and their families as well as many other benefits, he said.
In Genesis Lodge #64, there exists an active Sports Program, New Years Eve get-togethers, Valentine parties, holiday party for the kids, and Saturday evening affairs, in which all you have to bring is you, your family and friends.
The Pythians’ “Fall Weekend Away” is very popular and all members of Genesis Lodge #64 Knights of Pythias automatically become members of the Genesis Friendship Benevolent Association, which provides its membership with cemetery grounds and burial benefits.
Their charitable arm, the Alpha-Genesis Sunshine Foundation, distributes approximately $10,000 yearly to various charities throughout the Tri-State area. Additionally, their “Operation Hope” program supplies the homebound and needy with Passover packages during the holiday season.
A credit union is also available to all members upon their entrance into Genesis Lodge #64, Knights of Pythias.
