Welcome: Visitation Academy girls host students from Mendota Heights, Minnesota

Visitation Academy, an all girls elementary school spanning nursery to eighth grade hosted Mendota Heights Visitation Academy from Mendota Heights, Minnesota. The visit celebrated 400 years of Salesian spirit.

Mendota Heights Choir performed at the 9 a.m. Mass in the Sacred Heart Chapel, after which refreshments were served in the alumnae room. The Chamber Orchestra from Mendota Heights and Saint Thomas Academy also performed.

Joining the celebration were alumnae spanning many years. In this new millennium, the academy has grown a great deal and has expanded many of its programs.

The Performing Arts Department, under the direction of Brain Worsdale, was created to provide a more performance−based arts program. Worsdale has shepherded a program, which includes a brass band, cabaret troupe, chapel choir and an upper school spring musical.

Past productions have included “Into the Woods,” “Cinderella,” “Seussical,” “Once Upon a Matress,” “Willy Wonka” and this year’s performance, “The Music Man.”

VISTA Choir is a new ensemble, which includes singers from Mendota Visitation and Saint Thomas Academy. VISTA allows students to experience a choir, which will prepare them for singing in college. VISTA Orchestra is comprised of students in grades 9−12 from Visitation Academy in Minnesota and Saint Thomas Academy. The orchestra is composed of strings and a full symphony of wind, brass and percussion players.

The visiting school and faculty thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they had an opportunity to visit New York and attend a play. Previous graduates had an opportunity to renew old friendships and show their spouses and children where they attended school.
