Today’s news:

NYPD toasts stellar 25 years on the job

A 25−year veteran who helped the city and NYPD on the beat and behind the scenes was honored for her many years of faithful service last week.

With her proud mom, Anne, by her side, Police Officer Dawn McAuliffe was honored with a special Patrol Borough Brooklyn South “Cop of the Month” award.

Bestowing the award was Chief Joseph Fox, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, who explained that Officer McAuliffe was not only a model officer who watched after the residents of Borough Park and Kensington with a careful eye, but also watched over the officers in the 16th Avenue stationhouse as a Patrolman Benevolent Association delegate.

Inspector Peter DiBlasio, McAuliffe’s commanding officer, said that the energetic anti−crime cop has racked up over 600 arrests in her career – nearly all of it patrolling the 66th Precinct.

She is also responsible for organizing police and community functions, such as the holiday parties that the precinct holds each year.

Internally, she also runs the 66th Precinct’s “club” where she collects dues that pay to maintain the officer’s lounge, vending machines and other areas shared by the cops assigned to the station house.

DiBlasio said that McAuliffe is a valuable asset to the precinct and has helped the command maintain the drops in felony crime the precinct continues to celebrate.

According to NYPD CompStat numbers, crimes is down over 77 percent from 16 years ago – about the time that Officer McAuliffe was establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with on the street.

DiBlasio said that crime continues to fall – by nearly two percent this year with a five percent drop in robberies, statistics show.
