Salute to 9/11 firefighter

Remembering a fallen hero%u2026

City Councilmember Michael Nelson and community leaders gathered at Avenue Z and Nostrand Avenue last week to honor a fallen neighborhood firefighter almost eight years after his death on September 11, 2001.

Lt. Dennis Mojica, a native of Williamsburg, was just weeks away from marrying his fiancée, Maria Barreto, and making a life together in Sheepshead Bay when he perished.

His sacrifice, as well as his love of the FDNY and dedication to public service, was recalled as Nelson joined family and friends in renaming the corner in his honor.
