Today’s news:

‘Sunshine’ aids local charities

The convention hall was packed to capacity as the Alpha-Genesis Sunshine Foundation, the charitable arm of the Genesis Lodge No. 64 of the Knights of Pythias, presented their contributions to the charitable organizations they support throughout the City of New York.

Genesis Lodge members make contributions to these charities — among them Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Hebrew Free Burial Society, Hewlett House for Breast Cancer, Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, the Knights of Pythias Veterans Fund, and Lymphatic Research Foundations, Special Olympics, and Sunrise Day Camp for Children with Cancer — in memory of a deceased loved one or in honor of a special occasion.

Master of Ceremonies Sid Wieder introduced President Allan Greenberg and Treasurer Lowell Goldberg, who presented checks to the various charities, which totalled $10,000, a tremendous boon to the recipients during a time of federal and philanthropic cutbacks.

Weider also advised attendees that the Pythians are continuing “Operation Hope” in the distribution of Walbaum’s gift cards to various seniors and shut-ins under the direction of himself as vice president and Treasurer Lowell Goldberg.

NY State Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, a member of Genesis Lodge, praised the foundation for their contributions to the various charities, and Grand Chancellor Roger Siegel commended Genesis Lodge and the Alpha-Genesis Sunshine Foundation for their continued work in raising funds during the economic situation.

Genesis No. 64 is one of the largest, and most active, lodges in the State of New York, with more than 1,200 active brothers. The non-sectarian fraternal order provides major services to both its members and families, as well as to the community at large.
