Today’s news:

Garden Club’s roots are deep at 75

From tracking the deadly Asian Long-horned beetle to beautifying theneighborhood with trees, Brooklyn’s ‘gold coast’ can attribute much of its lushness to the Garden Club of Bay Ridge.

The green-thumbed bunch, whose handiwork has been hailed in national newspapers and can be admired at local green spots, celebrated its 75th anniversary with a benefit luncheon at Dyker Beach Golf Club, 86th Street and 7th Avenue.

Over the years, the club has spruced up the Revolutionary War Cemetery on Mackay Place, off Narrows Avenue, inventoried trees and tree pits throughout Bay Ridge and performed reviews of infestation so that proper remediation can take place.
