The most wonderful aspect of being an American is our right to have an opinion. Whether it’s off the wall, left wing, right wing, for or against, we are all entitled.
There are some people in this worldthat don’t have those rights. Over the years we’ve tried to protect them, Then there are some that would like to take those rights away from us. Over the years we have fought them. Butin 2001, some people who didn’t like the way we lived, or our freedom, hijacked and piloted planes into our buildings and fields, taking with them approximately 3,000 souls as well as causing untold billions in damages.
The individuals that allegedly masterminded these attacks on our soil, an act of war, were arrested and detained. Theyare now ready to stand trial. And where, might you ask, will that be? Right here in our city, less thanhalf a mile from where the first two planes struck.
These same individuals who didn’t agree with the way we live or our rights to agree and disagree are now being tried in our federal courts under our jurisdiction and entitled to trial under our Bill of Rights -havingthe right to be tried by a jury of their peers, a fair trial, counsel supplied if they cannot afford it, and the rights to evidentiary proceedings, under our judicial code.
Yup, now, thanks to the current administration, they can get all those silly inalienable rights that they so detested, with us, the hated individuals, footing the bill, in fact, in some instances, paid for in tax dollars by those self-same relatives and friends of those that perished as a result of their plotting and planning.
We will actually be paying to keep these cretins safe, protected by our police force, giving them a fair trial in one of our buildings that our tax dollars keeps open and tried by a judge that is on the city’s payroll. What a hoot - don’t you think?
And why? Because the current administration wants it.Not because it’s the right thing to do, but because they decreed it.Did they think about this at all while they were sitting in their fine leather chairs in their fine elected offices?
I ask myself, what else do they have up their Brooks Brothers’ sleeves? Will the current administration direct the jury to read the verdict in the field in Pennsylvania? Will the judge render sentencing in front of thePentagon? Will the vermin get to languish in our jails until they die ofold age?
Not for nuthin’, but the people of this city have already paid too high a price. We don’t need to add to the bill. But as my colleague and friend StanleyGershbein says, that’s only my opinion. JDelBuono@cnglocal.com
