Community activist Stanley Givant, husband of Jeanette Givant, female district leader of the 47th Assembly District, which encompasses Gravesend and parts of Bensonhurst, has died. He was 80 years old.
Givant was a longtime member-at-large and general member of the executive board of the United Progressive Democratic Club (UPDC), as well as a member of the Teamsters Union for 45 years.
Assemblyman William Colton stated, “Here was a gentle man, an active member of the community and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed not only by his family but by all that knew him.”
Givant died at the Beth Israel Medical Center-Kings Highway Division.
He is survived by his wife; son, Bruce, also an active member of the UPDC; daughter, Marlene; son-in-law, Michael Starr; three grandchildren: Amanda, 19, Gregory, 17, and Brook Starr 6; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Ruth Givant.
