Talented Free throw finalists hit nothing but net

Budding Lance Stephensons soared to new heights when they challenged mettle in a basketball contest at St. Bernards’s Church, presented by the St. Bernard’s Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Contestants, aged 10 to 14 years, transformed the house of worship, East 69th Street and Veterans Avenue, into a court of talent as they teamed up for the annual free-throw tourney, and competed to attain the next level with hopes of reaching the finals in the spring.

The winners were: Deondre Bourne, Teresa Reinhardt, Nick Dellarusso, Gianna Sciurtino, Cody Putterman, Anthony Trinalli and Bianca Sciurtino

The septet will compete in a district-wide leg of the contest, and the winners from that challenge will compete in the final rounds at Kings Point Merchant Marines Academy and West Point US Military Academy in the spring.
