Today’s news:

Piece offering! Turn in your gun for cash this weekend

Praise the lord and pass the ammunition — and the guns to, if you got ’em.

Praying to stave off a summer of violence, Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes is once again holding a “cash for guns” day at six Brooklyn churches.

Residents are encouraged to drop off guns — with no strings attached — at any of the participating sites for a $200 bank card that can be used to buy merchandise or for cash at any ATM.

The gun buyback day will be on May 8, from 11 am to 5 pm. Those who wish to turn in their weapons should bring the firearm in either a paper or plastic bag or a shoe box. If you are transporting the weapon in your car, it should be left in the trunk.

Rifles and shotguns will also be accepted, but only for $100 each. BB guns and air pistols will be purchased at $20 apiece.

Hynes said that the guns will be put through ballistic tests and then melted down.

Saturday’s event follows three similar gun buy back days in 2008. That year, the DA’s office purchased more than 1,500 firearms, including 460 revolvers, 379 semiautomatics and 41 sawed off shotguns.

Houses of worship participating in the buyback program include the Berean Baptist Church [1635 Bergen Street between Utica and Rochester avenues in Crown Heights, (718) 774-0466], the Bethany Baptist Church [460 Marcus Garvey Boulevard between DeKalb Avenue and Pulaski Street in Bedford Stuyvesant, (718) 455-8400], the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church [760 DeKalb Avenue between Tompkins and Marcy avenues in Bedford Stuyvesant, (718) 338-3900], the St. Paul Community Baptist Church [818 Schenck Avenue between Stanley Avenue and Linden Boulevard in East New York, (718) 257-1300], the First Baptist Church of Brownsville [357 Chester Street between Dumont and Livonia avenues in Brownsville, (718)498-1074] and the Evergreen Baptist Church on 455 Evergreen Avenue between Palmetto and Woodbine streets in Bushwick, (718) 574-5854].
