Helen Thomas is gone her story is still with us.

By now, every Jewish person I know has received an e-mail with the following Web site: WWW.WHCA.NET. Just in case you are one of the very few who have not, that’s the Web site of the White House Correspondents Association. Hit the ‘Contact Us’ button on the right, scroll down an inch or two, and then you can sound off, if you want to, about Helen Thomas.

I finished my three paragraph comment to them with “We should have recognized her as being anti-Jewish the day she openly wept uncontrollably at the gates of Egypt because the Pharaoh freed the slaves.”

I am still waiting to hear from some of our more prominent Jewish political people about Israel, the very necessary blockade, and Helen Thomas. Hey, Chuck Schumer, Anthony Weiner, Jerrold Nadler, Gary Ackerman — WHERE ARE YOU? Don’t you have something you’d like to tell us?

I frequently cite poll results when offering my opinions. I was recently accused of quoting only those surveys that lean to the right. The person who wrote challenged me to “name just one from the left.” The writer is obviously not a regular reader. If she was she would know that most of my numbers come from Rasmussen, Quinnipiac and Gallup. I also present results from the left-wing Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, CNN and MSNBC. The following “just one” is a shocking result from an unscientific MSNBC survey that the left-leaning media didn’t dare touch. The question: Do you support Arizona’s tough new law on illegal immigration? With 913,000 votes cast more than 876,000 or 96 percent shouted YES! A piddling 4 percent whimpered ‘no.’

Hard to believe? See for yourself.

Last week, President Obama was asked if he had spoken to BP CEO Tony Hayward. He said he had not because “When you talk to a guy like him, he’s going to say all the right things to me. I’m not interested in words. I’m interested in actions.”

In a recent discussion about illegal immigration and border control my friends asked me if I had spoken to President Obama. Gee, what a coincidence. I gave the exact same answer … word for word.

We in this great land enjoy freedoms that are unthinkable in many parts of our world. These freedoms did not come cheaply and on July 4th, before we head off to the beach, ball game or backyard barbecue, it would be nice if we recognized that fact. Take a few minutes to explain 1776 to our children. Then maybe you might want to say a prayer for our men and women in uniform who are performing the most heroic of all duties, protecting those freedoms. I promise you that you will not be struck by lightning if you make reference to the Lord above. Bet you a buck that sometime on the holiday you will join in the singing of God Bless America. I am StanGershbein@Bellsouth.net wishing you and yours a happy and safe holiday.
