Bensonhurst

20th Ave. murder

A heavy-handed thug beat a 37-year-old to death on 20th Avenue on Aug. 3, but was arrested 24 hours later.

Witnesses said the victim, who had only been in the United States for six months, was near 84th Street at 5:20 pm when the 36-year-old suspect attacked him, leaving him with multiple injuries to his head and face. The man died of his injuries a short time later at Coney Island Hospital.

Detectives from the 62nd Precinct said they apprehended his killer after linking him to an earlier dispute.

Robbed of cell

A thief bluffed his way through a robbery on Benson Avenue on Aug. 3 after claiming to have a gun hidden under his shirt.

The thug jumped a 14-year-old near 25th Avenue at 2:20 pm, forcing him to hand over his cell and $20, police said.

Side door man

A snake sneaked into a 77th Street home on Aug. 5, taking $7,000, a safety deposit box key and a pricey statute.

The 37-year-old homeowner between 18th and 19th avenues said the thief entered after forcing open a side door sometime after 9:15 am.

Frozen out

How do you beat the heat this summer? With a stolen freezer!

Workers at Quality Frozen Foods on 62nd Street between 16th and 17th avenues said that the store’s refrigeration system was swiped between June and Aug. 5, when someone finally noticed it was missing.

Surprise guest

A thief broke into a car on 20th Avenue — right in front of the car’s owner.

The 40-year-old motorist told police that he left his car outside a shop between 86th Street and Benson Avenue at 6:30 am and ran inside to buy something.

When he came out, he found the thief rummaging through his car.

Caught in the act, the thief ran to an awaiting vehicle and drove away.

Tire swipes

Two cars were left on their rotors last week. Here’s the rundown:

• A 2010 Honda Accord parked on Bay Ridge Avenue overnight on Aug. 3 lost all four tires and rims. The owner said he’d parked between 16th and 17th avenues at 9 pm.

• Thieves swiped the rims and tires off a 2010 Nissan Maxima on 70th Street on Aug. 2. The 42-year-old owner told police that he had parked his car between 16th and 17th avenues.
