Today’s news:

Brooklyn scalps Warriors during 5-2 rout

Brooklyn Daily

The Aviators scalped the hated Warriors at Floyd Bennett Field on Sunday, crushing the awkward Akwesasne skaters 5-2.

Brooklyn scored two unanswered goals in the first, giving fans filling the Aviator Sports and Events Center reason for hope going into the second — an exciting change of pace, considering that the Aviators crashed and burned on both Friday and Saturday.

The weakling Warriors scored a goal in the second — despite racking up six penalties — but Brooklyn’s boys of winter were still on top heading into the final round.

The last period was a welcome sight for Brooklyn fans: the Aviators took charge — scoring three to the Warriors one — and inciting so much frustration in their opponents that Warrior Patrick Deraspe picked a fight with Aviator center Jesse Felten and incurred two penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, bringing the Warriors’ time in the box to a classless 86 minutes.

The Aviators fell to the Warriors last season in the playoffs, but have gotten some much deserved payback this season, with a 2-0 record against their Canadian Rivals.

The Brooklyn Aviators be away this weekend, but will return home right before Christmas to battle the Cape Cod Bluefins at the Aviators Sports Center [3159 Flatbush Ave. in Floyd Bennett Field in Marine Park, (718) 758-7580] Dec. 22 at 7:35 pm. Tickets $12 ($10 for seniors and children under 14) For information, visit www.brooklynaviators.com.

Shaking Head from Akwesasne says:
I am still amazed that, in 2011, it is okay to use derogatory comments as long as it involves Native Americans...'scalping'...really? If the losing team consisted mostly of jewish players would you make a reference to the holocaust? NO, that's unacceptable isn't it?
