Today’s news:

School carnival a real money-maker

Brooklyn Daily

A Bergen Beach school’s spring carnival has turned into a real money-maker.

Supporters of PS 312 raised more than $5,000 for classroom supplies and programming at the school’s annual spring carnival on March 9, according to Parent Coordinator Carol Pino, who assisted Chairperson Sharyn Selden.

“It was very successful,” said Pino. “We actually had to turn people away because [so many showed up].”

More than 700 students, parents, and staff flocked to the fun-filled, three-hour carnival, which was held in the school’s auditorium on Avenue T at E. 72nd Street and included games, live entertainment, and a popular raffle.

The school raffled off an iPod, gym memberships, food baskets, and gift certificates to area restaurants, as well as toys and bikes for the neighborhood’s elementary school-aged students.

Pino said the carnival raises thousands of dollars each year to help offset budget cuts from the city. The cash pays for arts programming and supplies such as math books and science kits, Pino said.

“PS 312 is like a family,” she said. “To see people help out like this shows how much everyone supports the school.”
