Today’s news:

Bicyclist hit by Jeep

Brooklyn Daily

A cyclist was in critical condition after being struck by a car in Midwood on Sunday night.

Police said the cyclist was traveling eastbound on Avenue M — a street that does not have a bike lane — when she was clipped by a driver in a Jeep.

The driver stuck around — the hood of his Jeep SUV visibly dented — while paramedics rushed the 16-year-old girl to the hospital.

Police said no charges had been filed against the driver, and no criminality was suspected.

Midwood is not generally considered safe terrain for cyclists, and bikes are a rare sight on the streets here with the exception of the path on Ocean Parkway.

In October, a study released by the advocacy group Transportation Alternatives found that Flatbush, Ditmas Park, and Midwood — all of which are in Community Board 14 — was the worst area in Brooklyn for pedestrians between 1995 and 2009.
