Now this is how you make a first impression!

New Cyclones first baseman Jayce Boyd racked up two doubles and a triple before perfectly executing a game-winning sac fly in his first time on the field as a Mini Met on Monday, driving home the winning run in his team’s victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades in an 11-inning squeaker.

Boyd, a Florida State University junior who just signed with the Mets last week, was 3-for-5 for the night, starting with a double in the fourth that drove in designated hitter Cole Frenzel and tied the game 2–2. A single from center fielder Brandon Nimmo put the Mini-Mets up by one in the next at bat.

Clones left fielder Stefan Sabol hit an RBI single in the fifth to give a the Clones a comfy two-run lead, but the Baby Rays couldn’t be stopped. The rowdy Renegades came back in the seventh when shortstop Ryan Dunn sent three runners home with a double. A sacrifice fly in the eighth widened the Renegades lead to two, but Boyd bashed a triple when he took the plate and scored on a fielding error.

Down one in the bottom of the ninth, catcher Kevin Plawecki sent the game to extra innings with a solo homer.

The score remained 6–6 until Renegades closer Kris Carlson loaded the bases in the 11th after hitting Plawecki with a pitch, giving up a single to Frenzel, and walking Sabol — a fatal mistake that gave Boyd the perfect setup for his second RBI of the night on a deliberate, run-scoring pop-out. Cyclones closer John Mincone fanned four Renegades in extra innings to pick up the save.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449–8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] on July 4 at 7 pm as they take on the Williamsport Crosscutters.
