A sex discrimination case against Borough President Markowitz? Fuhgettaboutit!

A Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice threw out a lawsuit last week alleging the Beep discriminated against a former communications director in 2006 when he fired her and replaced her with a man with far less experience.

Former employee Regina Weiss claimed that Markowitz had favored hiring men over women, and created a macho office climate punctuated by chauvinistic remarks that made female staff members uncomfortable.

Justice Sylvia Ash found that Markowitz and his chief of staff at the time, Gregory Atkins, had “legitimate” reasons to ask Weiss to step down — according to our sister paper, the New York Post — citing “unsatisfactory performance.”

“We are pleased the court carefully considered the facts of this case and concurred with what our office maintained from the very beginning: that this lawsuit was baseless,” said Mark Zustovich, Markowitz’s outgoing communications director.

Weiss did not return inquiries for comment.

Dear Editor,
Since New York State is one of 38 states that allows its citizens to secretly tape their conversations, anyone who believes that he/she is a victim of ongoing sexist remarks by the hands of co-workers or superiors in the work place should audio or if possible video tape them to obtain compelling and substantial evidence to convict the perverts. In addition, letting the judge know that if justice is not done in his/her court, it will be done in the court of public opinion by playing the tapes on U- Tube which will embarrass all those who seek to make a mockery of the law .
