Neighborhood group honors Bay Ridge native James McHugh

Bay Ridge Community Council celebrates community pillar at annual dinner

Brooklyn Daily

It’s that time of year again — time for the Bay Ridge Community Council’s annual dinner-dance.

The 62-year-old umbrella organization of neighborhood groups held its yearly party at El Caribe Country Club in Mill Basin, and singled out one of Bay Ridge’s native sons for its 2013 Civic Award.

Amidst the food and music, the club honored James McHugh — a senior vice president at Signature Bank who has donated much of his time and money to community institutions like the Ragamuffin Parade, Senior Idol, and Saint Anselm’s Catholic Academy.

Council President Renee Dorsa acknowledged McHugh’s winning personality as well as his contributions to the neighborhood when she presented him with the award.

“We could not have chosen a more sincere, down-to-earth and deserving individual,” Dorsa told the crowd of nearly 300, which included many of McHugh’s friends and family members.

McHugh expressed appreciation both for the honor, and the party the Council had organized.

“I’m very flattered that they even nominated me, let alone gave me the award,” said McHugh. “You couldn’t have asked for a nicer evening.”
